Mighty Moses wins Open

Mighty Moses scored a 1:56.2 victory in the $27,500 Valentine's Day Open Trot while Armbro Corbin led from the start to win the $24,000 Jr. Open trot, the feature events on a cold and windy Wednesday at Dover Downs. For the third time in four nights, the sport's leading driver Tim Tetrick collected five wins.

As has become his pattern, Jim Morand patiently waited in the middle of the field until mid-backstretch before calling on the Garland Lobell gelding heading to the far turn. Mighty Moses then sped past the leaders and quickly opened up enough of an advantage to withstand fast finishing JM Vangogh, sent along the passing lane by Tony Morgan to finish second and Go Sassy Go rolling down the lane for George Dennis to finish a close-up third in the 1:56.2 mile. The victory was the third in his last four for Mighty Moses owned by Betsy and Ken Wood, Bill Dittmar and Stave Iaquenta.

Tetrick took Alain Durivage's Armbro Corbin right to the front at the start and led at all intervals and then held off a determined bid from the Sean-Bier driven Muslesextrodinair to reach the finish line in front by a nose in 1:58. Nathan My Boy and Brad Hanners raced evenly and finished third.

In a $17,000 winners-over trot, Elvis Cole became an all-Callahan show as Corey Callahan drove the Lindy Land gelding to a 1:56.2 victory for Parker Callahan and trainer Nick Callahan. RC Destiny (Morgan) and Vicki Gram (Art Stafford Jr.) were second and third respectively.

Mr. Performer won a $13,000 conditioned trot in 1:59.2 easily beating CC's Glide-On-By (Sean Bier), second and Pretty Goal Vita (Jim King) third.

The Wiz Kids Stable's Real Protection notched a victory in a $12,5000 Delaware pace for young horses. AJ Arrow (Mike Cole) was second. Mic Mac Beau (King) was next.

Tetrick picked up his fifth win, for the third time in four nights, driving Mike and Ann Tait's Tug River Walter to victory in 1:54.4 to win a $10,700 Delaware male pace. C'mon C'mon C'mon (Hanners) battled the win while leading from the start to finish second. Wands Little Alex (Roger Plante) took show money.

Eddie Davis Jr. rushed away from the starting gate with Jeanne McInnis' Campanellino and was never headed in a 1:58.3 triumph in the first 3-4-&-5-year-old female pace. Scylla Hanover (Herve Filion) was second. Everything Rides (Plante) was the third-place finisher.

Whammy Hanover, driven by Morgan for owners Vernon and Jana Hood, fought off a late rally from Hanna'a Delight (Tetrick) by a long nose to notch a 1:58.1 win in a second $10,000 3-4-&5-year-old distaff pace. Miss Kylee Renee (Eddie Davis) stormed down the stretch to finish third.

Ken Dawson's Electron won for the second time in three starts taking a $15,000 Delaware male claiming pace in 1:55. Johnny Burton N (Corey Callahan) came from far back to finish second with Heez Ruthless N (Davis) third. (Dover Downs)
