Mike Allen critically hurt

February 17, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The U.S. Trotting Association is reporting Mike Allen, the son of Mae Jean and the late Carl Allen, is under heavy sedation at a Gainesville, Fla., hospital after suffering severe head injuries in a motorcycle accident.

Allen was reportedly headed home Tuesday near Ocala when a Lexus SUV pulled in front of him, resulting in Allen striking the vehicle and being catapulted over the SUV and onto the roadway. He was transported by a Life Flight helicopter to a medical center in Gainesville, where he was found to have a significant hemorrhage around the brain stem.

Allen has show responses to pain stimulus, but he is being kept heavily sedated and on a respirator, according to his brother, noted veterinarian Martin Allen.

Those looking to send well wishes to Mike Allen and his family may write to 12662 N W US Hwy 27 Ocala, Fla. 34482. (USTA)
