Drivers Yannick Gingras and David Miller got their feet wet Friday afternoon at Solvalla Racetrack in Stockholm, Sweden, in preparation for Sunday's famed Elitlopp. Both drivers had never raced at Solvalla but were able to pick up mounts on Friday and Saturday.
Miller had two drives and both finished off the board. Gingras had two scheduled drives but one was scratched. Gingras posted on Facebook that the other, Oldschoolmare, raced good but was locked in. She finished sixth.
Gingras also posted that Miller set a new Solvalla track record for the fastest first quarter ever: 26 flat. Miller drove Next Kronos in Race 1 to that new record. Miller's other mount was Potemkin.
Miller is set to drive the Jimmy Takter-trained Uncle Peter in Sunday's Elitlopp, while Gingras will be behind the Jonas Czernyson-traine Maven, who is hoping to become the first mare since Moni Maker in 1998 to win the prestigious race. Check back on Sunday on www.harnessracing.com for race results.
