Miller reaches milestone

June 16, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

David Miller became the seventh driver in harness racing history to surpass the $100 million plateau in career earnings on Friday night at the Meadowlands.

Miller's victory with Free in the $46,500 mares open was enough to push him past the milestone in the eighth race of the night.

"It's a big accomplishment to go over that mark," said Miller.   "Honestly, going into tonight, I didn't know I was that close.   Free is certainly a good mare, very versatile."

Miller and Free took the early lead and yielded to My Little Dragon with three-eighths of a mile to go.   In mid-stretch, Miller tipped his mare out and she wore down the leader for a half-length victory in 1:50.2.   Trained by Kelvin Harrison, Free posted her fourth win in seven starts this season and second straight at the Meadowlands.   She was a $200,000 private purchase on May 5, 2007 by Joseph Alflen of Redondo Beach, California.

After dominating the Ohio circuit for 10 years, David Miller has been an equally formidable force in the Meadowlands driver colony since 1999.  He shared his first January-August driving title with Luc Ouellette in 2003 and won back-to-back titles during the 2002 and 2003 fall meets.  The 43-year-old reinsman resides in Cream Ridge, New Jersey.
