Miss DW Chip and Trace Tetrick cruised home to a commanding win Wednesday in the $24,000 featured Invitational Trot for fillies and mares at Hoosier Park. The duo crossed the wire 4 3/4 lengths ahead of BV’s Sister in a new lifetime best of 1:55.1.

Starting from post seven in the eight-horse open draw field, Miss DW Chip busted out from behind the Todd Nixon starting gate with fire, passing by the first quarter mile marker in :27. Down the backstretch, she had no competition as the tempo continued through the halfway mark in :57.1. Wigwam Baby and Dan Shetler tipped to the outside, which created the outer flow and caused American Tribute, with Andy Shetler, to endure the first-over journey around the final turn.

In the stretch, Miss DW Chip found another gear and pulled away from the field, sprinting home in a final quarter of :28.2 to win the contest. Glide Sally Glide and Doug Rideout maintained ground inside for third.

“This is a really nice mare and she (Miss DW Chip) is lightning fast off the gate,” said Tetrick. “She can get a little riled up, but once she gets to the front, she really relaxes. The first fractions were quick, tonight, but she was solid through the wire and picked up a new lifetime mark.”

Miss DW Chip now has 19 career wins and nearly $80,000 in career earnings. The 8-year-old daughter of Imperial Glory is owned by Dennis Ward of Clarkson, Ky. Jeff Brewer, Hoosier Park’s leading trainer in 2008, conditions Miss DW Chip.

“Jeff (Brewer) has done a good job in prepping this mare,” said Tetrick. “I got to drive her in Chicago this winter for trainer Billy Farmer. Jeff has had her since her qualifier at Balmoral. I always thought she could trot fast, and tonight, she was really good.”

Brewer and Tetrick also connected for another win on the 13-race program. Tetrick guided Mid West Hottie to victory in the fourth race. Brewer also picked up a win with Little Old Ladywho, driven by Peter Wrenn, in the seventh race, giving Brewer a training triple on the night.

Wrenn, who scored six wins on Tuesday's racing program, added another five wins to his tally Wednesday. Wrenn leads all drivers at Hoosier Park with 31 wins over Ricky Macomber Jr., who is in second place with 15 through the first 12 nights of racing action in 2009. (Hoosier Park)
