Miss Galvinator A rebounded from her first defeat in 14 starts two weeks ago in the first round of the Cape And Cutter Series by taking the $81,200 series final for open mare pacers in 1:54.1 by less than a head over sentimental longshot Stonebridge Kisses. Nanny Withafanny rallied late between horses to be third one-half length behind the winner.
In a surprising, but very tactful move, driver Daniel Dube hustled the 7-year-old Stonebridge Kisses away at the start from the outside sixth post position and grabbed the early lead in front of the favored Miss Galvinator A and Yannick Gingras. But just before the opening quarter was reached in :28, Gingras had the 8-year-old daughter of Fake Left on the front end. That left Nanny Withafanny third at the pylons with Cat Manzi and a rapidly developing outer flow Easton Alliance N, last week’s leg winner Street Dancer and Riley Rose.
The half was passed in :58.1 and the three quarters in 1:27.
In the lane Miss Galvinator A held strong with the lead as Stonebridge Kisses inched up the inside. Ron Pierce fanned Street Dancer four wide, but she couldn’t gain ground on the leader and when Easton Alliance N. flattened out, Manzi shot Nanny Withafanny between horses for a dramatic 3-horse finish.
Miss Galvinator A, whose winning streak started last October at Monticello, scored her fifth win in six starts this year and increased her lifetime earnings to $554,711 for owner Richard Annunziata. She is trained by Ettore Annunziata.
Miss Galvinator A was scratched from last week’s second leg of the series.
