Brian Sears pulled Mister Big from fourth approaching the half to take aim at the leading Won The West and the 5 year old was able to grind his way to a 1:49.4 victory in the $157,000 Allerage Farms Open Pace, surpassing the $3-million mark in career earnings along the way.
Won The West and Greg Grismore set fractions of :26.2, :55 and 1:23.2 but was unable to fend off the determined big by Mister Big. Zooka moved past Won The West to take runner-up honors. It was the seventh straight win for Mister Big, a son of Grinfromeartoear out of the Jate Lobell mare World's Sweetheart.
Already the winner this year of the Breeders Crown, William Haughton Memorial final, U.S. Pacing Championship, Canadian Pacing Derby and Winbak Open, Mister Big has seasonal earnings of more than $1.35 million. He is now a three-time millionaire for owner Joe Muscara and trainer Virgil Morgan Jr.
Despite a five-horse field, The Red Mile offered show wagering, with the vast majority of the total $129,000 pool wagered on Mister Big.
