Mister Big wins Aquarius

February 24, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Mister Big rallied seven wide from near the back of the field, catching another fast closer, Fox Valley Appeal, at the wire for a 1:51.2 victory in the $74,000 Aquarius final at the Meadowlands Saturday night. Real Mean Art was a late-closing third.

Ab’s Beach Boy took the early lead from post seven for Tim Tetrick, but it was Tuffofthethoughest and George Brennan who reached the quarter in :27. With the field remaining in single file down the backstretch, Brennan backed the pace down, reaching the half in :57.2.

Tuffofthetoughest was still on the lead at the 1:24.1 three quarters, but was challenged by an outer flow that included the fast-closing Fox Valley Appeal third-over for Cat Manzi.

Brian Sears only had two horses beat when he tipped Mister Big off the pylons and behind Fox Valley Appeal coming out of the last turn as a host of horses were spread across the track attempting to catch the leader. In the final strides it was Mister Big on the far outside edging past Fox Valley Appeal for the victory with Real Mean Art and David Miller moving between horses to be third.

Mister Big, who won a division of last week’s second leg of the series in much easier fashion, is trained by Virgil Morgan Jr. for Joseph Muscara. The Grinfromeartoear 4 year old won for the fifth time this year in seven starts—including the Willowdale Series final at Woodbine—pushed his career earnings to $507,271 with the victory.
