Mistress Valentine fast in Meadows win

Return Home
March 14, 2013 | Print View

Slowed by momentary but troubling breaks in recent starts, Mistress Valentine put it back together Wednesday at The Meadows as she cruised to a comfortable victory in the Mary Wohlmuth Memorial Trot. Promisemethis took the other $12,500 split in the second leg of the series for 3- and 4-year-old fillies and mares.

Although Mistress Valentine briefly broke stride at the start in her last two races — recovering to finish first and second — she was fast and mannerly Wednesday when Tony Hall gunned her to the front. The 4-year-old daughter of Master Glide-Patsy’s Valentine scored without a serious challenge in 1:59.2 over a "good” surface. The ground-saving Winning Double was second, 2-1/4 lengths back, with Kandian Klub third.

Tyler Stillings trains Mistress Valentine, who now has won eight of 12 career outings, and owns with Rags to Riches of PA LLC.

Promisemethis also atoned for an opening-leg break by firing through the Lightning Lane to prevail in 2:00.1, a neck better than early leader Monroe County. The first-over Sheknowsherlines raced well for show. Dan Rawlings piloted the 3-year-old daughter of Chip Chip Hooray-Promisemespring for owners/breeders Rick and Regina Beinhauer.

Dave Palone drove four winners — three for trainer Ron Burke — on the 12-race card while Mike Wilder enjoyed a driving triple. Live racing at The Meadows resumes Thursday, first post 6:55 PM.
