Mitchell leaving WEG

February 11, 2005 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG) has announced that Hugh Mitchell, the company's Senior Vice-President Racing, has resigned effective April 2 to take the position of chief operating officer at Western Fair Association, a place he previously worked. Mitchell said the decision to leave WEG was made in part to work closer to his home.

David S. Willmot, chairman and C.E.O. of Woodbine, said Mitchell "...has made an enormous contribution. In addition to his considerable and valuable management skills, his exceptional personal standards of integrity and fairness have left an indelible mark not just on the Woodbine organization but on racing in general. I wish Hugh happiness and success in his new position and would like to add that I personally will miss him as a friend and key member of our management team. We should all be pleased that he will remain involved in and continue to contribute to the horse racing industry."

Mitchell was assistant general manager at Western Fair when he left to assume the role of Vice President of Standardbred Racing at WEG in September of 1998. A year later he was appointed Senior Vice President of Racing, in charge of both Standardbred and Thoroughbred racing at WEG.
