MN track to break ground

Groundbreaking for a harness track north of Minneapolis-St. Paul has been tentatively scheduled for Jan. 18, 2007, according to a release issued by Southwest Casino Corporation (SWCC).

The SWCC, which owns a 50 percent interest in North Metro Harness Initiative LLC, has announced the groundbreaking ceremony will take place at the North Metro harness track and card room site in Columbus, Minn.

On Nov. 28 it was announced that the $50 million facility would not open next year due to concerns from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers that artifacts from an early Indian village on the site would be disturbed. The track is not scheduled to open until 2008.
