Monticello Raceway has cancelled its Wednesday card because of unsafe track conditions, which marks the third straight day the track has cancelled live racing. Current track conditions are the results of a very cold winter in which the frost has been has permeated deep into the ground.
With the recent unseasonably warm weather the earth, is thawing and there is little that can be done to keep the racetrack surface consistent.
“We are, and I know everyone else is, frustrated by what’s happening here in the mountains but safety of the drivers and their horses is of the utmost importance,” said Shawn Wiles, the track's assistant general manager. "Weather permitting we will resume racing on Thursday, March 11, with first post at 1:10 pm.”
