Trainer Anthony Montini, who was recently suspended for 180 days by the Ontario Racing Commission (ORC), has received a stay from a Superior Court judge and will be permitted to race for the foreseeable future, according to a story on Standardbred Canada's Trot Insider web site. Among the horses Montini has trained is world record holder Primetime Bobcat.
In early April the ORC denied Montini's appeal of a positive test on Paragon, who tested positive for the Class 3 drug phenylpropolamine.
"The commission denied my appeal and I wasn't satisfied so I decided to take it for judicial review and asked for stay in meantime," Montini told Trot Insider Wednesday. "The commission denied it [the request for a stay] so I filed a motion and went in front of the Superior Court and the judge ruled me worthy of a stay on Monday," he said.
"I'm really, really not satisfied with commission's decision. I think there is enough evidence there to objectively look at this and say 'something's not right here'. This is something I feel I have been really mistreated for."
