Lemoyne "Mooney" Svendsen didn't waste anytime on Thursday in recording his 2,000th career winning drive as he hit the milestone in his first drive of the California racing week. It may have just been a $3,000 claimer, but for Mooney Svendsen, it couldn't have been sweeter.
Driving Ima Princess Tu, Svendsen didn't know what to think going into the race. "I had no clue what I was going to do in the race because I never drove her, but the trip worked out great and everything turned out great," said Svendsen. Getting a great ground saving trip until moving to the outside in the stretch to briefly follow Look I Win, Svendsen would move his mare three-wide with an eighth of a mile to go before wearing Look I Win to score by a half of one-length in 1:57.2. For Svendsen, the win was joyous and very rewarding, given that Svendsen knew someone very special was proudly looking down at his son. "It was exhilarating to get the 2,000 victory, but the whole way down the stretch, I was thinking of my dad (Lorenz)," finished an emotionally happy Svendsen. (Cal Expo)
