More Ky. slots bills filed

Less than a month after a bill was introduced in the Kentucky legislature to allow gaming at the state's racetracks, two more bills have been filed that would do the same.

Rep. Tom Burch, D-Louisville, has filed two different bills that would allow slot machines at the tracks but not casinos. The first would add slot machines at the tracks and the second would let local voters decide if they want slot machines in their counties.

The bill introduced earlier this year by Sen. David Boswell, D-Owensboro, would allow casinos at the state's racetracks and provide for four casinos in other locations.

Although the bills have been introduced, it appears they will not be heard or voted on during this year's legislative session. Republican Sen. Damon Thayer, who chairs a committe which oversees legislation dealing with constitutional amendments, says he has no plans to call for an amendment dealing with gambling this year.
