Harrington Raceway's 62nd year of live racing came to a close Thursday night after its 109th racing card of 2008 was completed.Tony Morgan was honored as the track's leading driver for the third consecutive year as he finished with 332 wins. Ross Wolfenden, Jim Morand, Corey Callahan and Brandon Givens rounded out the top five. "It's been a great year," said Morgan. "I appreciate the opportunity I've been given by the trainers and owners I drive for." Meanwhile, Tim Crissman earned his first training title at Harrington with 87 wins. Dylan Davis, Josh Green, Les Givens and George Teague completed the top five.
"This is great to win," said Crissman. "My help does a great job and we couldn't do it without them."
Also on closing night, the track's G.E.M. (Greet Eat & Meet) promotion's grand prize drawing was concluded as Marilyn Burstein was presented with a $2,000 check from Chardon Jewelers, one of the promotion's sponsors. Each week during the meet, a patron and guest had the opportunity to tour the paddock, ride in the starting car and eat dinner at Harrington Raceway and Casino's Bonz restaurant with an active trainer and driver. The weekly participants were entered in Thursday's grand prize drawing.
The horsemen that participated also were entered in a drawing for a $2,000 travel voucher from Jet Set Travel, which was won by Jeff Lieberman.
Perhaps highlights of the meet were the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund events for 2 and 3 year olds and the signature Bobby Quillen Memorial, which resulted in Mister Big winning the $317,000 final on Oct. 20.
Live racing will resume in April 2009. (Harrington)
