Morgan heads to Northfield

In his quest to reach the 1,000-win mark for 2006, driver Tony Morgan will compete at Northfield Park in Cleveland on Thursday and Friday. Morgan is currently based at Dover Downs, but with that track only racing one more card on Saturday, he has taken his sulky on the road. On Saturday Morgan drove at Sports Creek Raceway in Michigan while visiting family, winning three times in 12 starts to bring his yearly win total to 993.

Morgan is attempting to become only the second driver in history to reach 1,000 wins in a single season, joining only Water Case Jr., who won 1,076 races in 1998. Morgan has 13 drives at Northfield on Thursday and 14 on Saturday, before he returns to Dover on Saturday.

Morgan, who is a three-time dash champion (1995, 1996 and 1997) will be donating his five-percent driving fees at Northfield to cover the cost of a paddock buffet and large screen TV on Jan. 8 so that the horsemen can watch the Ohio State football team play Florida in the BCS Championship game.
