Moses rules in DD Open

For the second straight week Mighty Moses came from behind to win the $27,500 mares Open/Handicap while Go Sassy Go pulled a surprise to take the $23,000 Mares Jr. Open. Tim Tetrick had five wins, George Dennis had four, and Jim Morand had a three-win night.

The Ken Wood Stable and trainer Eric Ell won both the Tuesday feature with Yada Yada Yada A and Wednesday Open with Mighty Moses. In the $27,500 Open Trot, Morand won for the second time on the card whirling five wide around the final turn and overtaking six rivals to score a 1:55.3 victory by three lengths.

There was plenty of early speed as Breeze Hill Will with Tetrick and Armbro Corbin driven by Kevin Sizer exchanged leads through a :26.4 opening panel and a :55.3 half. Heading to the final turn Tim Curtin driving Jake's Nordic battled for the lead with Breeze Hill Will with the rest of the field bunching up for a challenge. Morand sent Mighty Moses five wide and then flew past his opponents for what became an easy victory. Saint Johns Boy with Ross Wolfenden closed well to finish second with Racsan Jenny, the only distaff in the lineup, finishing third.

Dennis picked up his third winner of the night steering Delbert Cain's 8-1 shot Go Sassy Go to a lifetime-best clocking of 1:54.4 in the $23,000 Jr. Open Trot. Dennis moved the CR Commando mare out of third at the three-quarters to quickly take the lead and then opened up a two-length lead while coasting to victory. Bud Ross and Tony Morgan was the second-place finisher while Kennywood closed from far back for Roger Plante for third. Rusty's Biggie (Tetrick) broke stride at the start and was out of the money.

Nathan My Boy took the lead early for Brad Hanners and led the rest of a 1:57.4 mile to win a $17,000 winners-over trot. C.D.Hertrich, Brooks Stable and Green Racing own the 5-year-old Ohio-bred gelding who recorded his third win in his last five outings. Admiral's Quest (Morand) was runner-up. Striking Rum (Morgan) finished third.

Rome Warrior won the $13,000 conditioned trot in 1:57.4 with Wolfenden at the controls. The 9-year-old gelding won for the second time in his last three starts for Joe Colosi and Tim Hundertpfund. Race favorite My Huckleberry (Tetrick) got away slowly and closed from far back to finish second. In front of Pretty Goal Vita (Jim King).

Tetrick's fourth win came with a 17-1 longshot Clemens, owned by Carol and trainer Jim Atkinson, in a $12,000 Delaware pace for young horses. Badlands Sammy (Morand) and Awesome Character (Hanners) followed.

Lynda Long's Smalltowndesperado, with Morand driving for conditioner Jim Atkinson, his first of two training wins, won a $12,000 Delaware pace for 4 and 5 year olds in 1:54.1. Gin And Vermouth (Wolfenden) finished second with Pathfinder (Dennis) third.

J Lo In Training became driver Tetrick's third win and the second for trainer Green and Green Racing Inc. The 4-year-old Rustler Hanover mare reduced her record to 1:57 turning back Tug River Krazy (Morgan) and My Buddy Puddles (Herve Filion) in a $10,000 4 -and 5-year-old mare pace.

Tetrick's fifth win came driving Jim Scholtzhauer's Tug River Ted to a 1:53.2 victory in a $12,500 Delaware male claiming race. Earlier, Tetrick had driven Mike and Ann Tait's Tug River Walter, also from post nine, to victory in a $7,500 claimer. Both horses are half brothers from the Armbro Aussie mare Awestralian.
