August 19, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Three-year-old colt and filly trotters competed Sunday afternoon at Flamboro for the C$130,000 Ontario Sire Stakes Gold Final.  Movin Over and driver Jason Brewer, at odds of 23-1, swept past the pacesetter to win the filly final in 1:57.2.  Beer Budget and Luc Ouellette won the colt final, drawing off in 1:57.1.

Getting away sixth, Jason Brewer let JM Aggie (Jody Jamieson) and Carolyn As (Jack Moiseyev) battle it out to the half.  Going to the three quarters Movin Over was sitting seventh but went three-wide around the last turn to power on by to win by two lengths over JM Aggie who finished second and Carolyn As held on for third.

Movin Over is owned and trained by Stacy Ann Beckley and William Beckley of Cambridge, Ontario.  The three-year-old filly is by Royal Ballad out of the Overcomer mare Over Dover.  She now has three wins in 11 lifetime starts, after not starting as a two-year-old.  Going off at 23-1, Movin Over paid $48.80, $26.70 and $8.20.

“She felt good the whole mile, I thought she’d be okay at the wire and she was,” said driver Brewer.  “They asked me if I’d warm her up, so I warmed her up the second trip.  I liked her and she does everything perfect.  She’s good gaited and good mannered.”

Three-year-old colts went postward just two races later to go for their C$130,000 OSS Gold Final.  Beer Budget and Luc Ouellette never looked back after reaching the quarter in front to win in 1:57.1.

The colt by Yankee Paco was challenged first by Chelemark Porter and then by Hoopie, but coming down the stretch, he drew off winning by three and a third lengths.  Owned and trained by Christopher Beaver and Johanna Beaver, Beer Budget now has two wins in 11 starts on the year.  His first win in ’07 came just last week, August 10 in the OSS Gold elimination.  He now has seven wins in 25 starts lifetime for over $400,000 in earnings.  His victory in the Gold final is a new lifetime mark.

“Last year he was good on a half mile track and he did make some money on the half,” driver Ouellette said.  “Last week he was very good and we were very lucky in the draw, to draw the rail.”
