Mr. Coolie effectively overcame on off track and a tough post position to complete a sweep of the Ontario Boys Pacing Series for 4 year olds on Saturday night at Woodbine Racetrack.

With Doug McNair in the driver’s seat in the $60,000(C) final, the son of No Pan Intended-Armbro Vertical got away fifth in the first quarter and watched as Justalittleluck put up an opening panel of :26.2. As the field straightened up towards the half, McNair decided to send his charge to the attack and the pair moved up powerfully to take over command just past the half in :56.2. Mr. Coolie continued to lead the field with no one challenging through three-quarters in 1:25.2.

As the field turned for home, Mr. Coolie tried to kick away in his rivals with Justalittleluck coming to the outside to challenge. Longshots Lakers Vett and Ponder Seelster had also moved up into contention along the inside.

It was Lakers Vett who closed strongest of all on the outside and chased Mr. Coolie right to the wire. Mr Coolie held off the closer by a head with Ponder Seelster landing the show spot and Topcornerterror rallying to finish fourth in the 1:54.2 mile.

The winner returned $8.30 to his backers and triggered a superfecta worth $5,778.10.

The victory was the third straight for Mr. Coolie who went winless in four starts last year and his first five outings this season before breaking out in the opening leg of the series. The winner’s share of the purse boosted his career earnings to $107,000 for trainer Gregg McNair who co-owns along with Ian Fleming of Londesborough, Ont. (WEG)
