The 2006 Little Brown Jug winner Mr Feelgood (Grinfromeartoear-Best Of Memories) scored his fastest Down Under win last Saturday night. The 7 year old zoomed over 1,660 meters at Brisbane's Albion Park in a 1:54 mile rate to win his first start for new trainer-driver Luke McCarthy.
Mr Feelgood used gate speed to lead, then McCarthy took a trail on another speedy North American import, Fox Valley Appeal (Sportsmaster-Theladyappealstome), before using the passing lane to win easily.
The curtain is coming down on Mr Feelgood's racing career with connections deciding he will be retired to stud at the end of this season (end of August). But managing owner Kevin Seymour decided to switch him from New Zealand trainers Tim and Anthony Butt to McCarthy, who is based in Australia.
Mr Feelgood will now head back to Menangle's Tabcorp Park---the seven-eighths mile oval where Blacks A Fake won his record fourth Inter Dominion on final on March 7--for Friday's $100,000 Len Smith Mile. Mr Feelgood started from post nine in the Inter Dominion final and raced at the back of the field before making a late charge, but still finishing back. McCarthy said his stable would then return to Queensland for races like the Sunshine Sprint and Winter Cup in July.--By Adam Hamilton
