Mr. Muscleman made his final tune-up before his 2006 debut this Saturday with a fourth-place finish in a 1:59 qualifying mile at The Red Mile this morning. With Ron Pierce in the bike Mr. Muscleman sat last in the five-horse field through fraction of :29.3, :59.3 and 1:30.3 before finishing fourth, race-timed in 1:59.3.

“He was suppose to qualify (last) Saturday before they called them off (due to the heavy rain in Lexington),” said Mr Muscleman’s trainer Noel Daley. “He’s going to be in (this) Saturday, so I was trying to go as slow as he possibly could.”

Mr. Muscleman, who has not raced in a year due to a suspensory injury, is scheduled to make his first start in the Allerage Trot elimination, if needed, this Saturday at The Red Mile.

Daley said if Mr. Muscleman had been able to qualify last Saturday he would have been aimed for a 1:55 mile.

Daley asked Pierce after the qualifier if Mr. Muscleman was any good. Pierce responded, ‘I don’t know I just jogged him,” Then more seriously he said, “he felt real good to me.”
Daley also qualified My Little Dragon, who finished second in a 1:57.2 mile won by I’m-The-Goto-Girl. The qualifier was because the Dragaon Again filly has been put on Lasix and in Kentucky is required to qualify before racing with the medication.
