Mr. Pine Chip sold

March 11, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

A half interest in 3-year-old colt trotter Mr. Pine Chip has been sold by breeder-owner Joe Sbrocco to Allen Skolnick and trainer Trond Smedshammer. Harnessracing.com heard rumors of the possible sale of last year's Pennsylvania Sire Stakes champ and Breeders Crown runner-up on Friday and it was confirmed later that day by Sbrocco in a conversation with The Meadows' announcer Roger Huston.

"Joe said the deal was for 'the high six figures,'" Huston said Saturday morning, adding that he announced the purchase agreement on The Meadows' simulcast show Friday night. "Trond will have the horse on Monday morning."

Mr. Pine Chip is a son of SJ's Caviar-Miss Pine Chip. Last year he had five wins and four seconds in 13 starts, earning $290,508. His mark of 1:56.2 came in a November qualifier at The Meadows. Among his victories was the $100,000 PASS final, and he concluded his campaign with a second-place effort behind Chocolatier in the Breeders Crown final at the Meadowlands.
