Mr. Thinker just keeps rolling on. The 10-year-old stallion has had a distinguished career where he has earned in excess of $270,000 and won 42 races. On Tuesday afternoon at Monticello Raceway, Mr. Thinker recorded his sixth consecutive victory--even with a new plot aboard.
For the second time in over the pacer's recent win skein, Brandon Simpson got the call from trainer Brian O’Neill and guided the oldtimer to a 1:56 victory, his eighth in 11 seasonal starts.
Zeke Parker had been the pacers regular tail-setter though Simpson handled Mr. Thinker two starts back when Parker was unavailable. And when he got the call Simpson responded with yet another triumph for Mr. Thinker.
O’Neill moved Mr. Thinker up in class to the $10,000 claiming ranks after he had raced for lesser tags along his recent journey and the higher priced claimers proved to be no obstacle.
Simpson hustled Mr. Thinker to the lead after leaving from the two hole and they cruised through fractions of :28.2; :58 and 1:27.1 and finished three lengths ahead of Behind Enemy Lines in a seasonal best of 1:56.
“He’s a gritty old guy who loves to ramble and (trainer) Brian (O’Neill) has him in top form,” Simpson said about Mr. Thinker. “I believe he thinks he can beat anybody right now.”
The 10-year-old son of Glowing Tribute paid $3.70 for win. He is also owned by O’Neill
Mr. Thinker’s victory was one of two on the card for Simpson. He also won the first race with the Brian Horlacher-trained Late Attack in 1:58:2. Also of note , the meet’s leading driver Bruce Aldrich Jr. had a four-bagger and now has 162 wins here as he distances himself from the rest of the driving colony. Runner-up Greg Merton has 100 victories. (Monticello)
