Mucho Sleazy and Bullville Powerful put on commanding front-end performances to win their $25,000 Berry’s Creek eliminations on Saturday night at the Meadowlands, with Mucho Sleazy pacing to his victory in 1:50.3 and Bullville Powerful scoring in 1:50.4.

The $215,000 Berry’s Creek Final, the first major stakes test for 3-year-old colt pacers, will be contested Saturday, May 10.

In the first elim, Mucho Sleazy seized the lead from Four Starz Moxie in a :55 half and rolled to a 1 ¾-length victory. Blueridge Western traveled first-over to finish second, while Four Starz Moxie held third.  Mucho Sleazy, driven by Andy Miller returned $4.60.

Trained by Ken Rucker, Mucho Sleazy improved his record to seven wins in 19 career starts.  Marty Engel bred and owns the son of Sportsmaster.

"We got in a good spot, the two-hole and moved him to the front,” said winning driver, Andy Miller.  “We coasted a long from there and when I asked him in the lane to go, he had quite a bit of pace.”

Elimination winners earned the privilege of choosing their post position for next week’s final and Miller chose post two for Mucho Sleazy.

Driver Yannick Gingras employed a similar tactic with Bullville Powerful to win the second elim. Bullville Powerful paid $16 as he picked up his first win in four starts this season.  Stephen Crevani bred, owns and trains the son of Bettor’s Delight.

Young driving sensation Tyler Buter made his Meadowlands debut behind Art Official, who battled first-over and rocketed home in :26 to finish second.  Mercantileexchange was a distanced third.

“I wanted to cut [the mile] if I could, but I wasn't sure if Tyler was going to make a move,” Gingras said.  “We got a nice first half and I rated him at the 5/8.  He set sail and after that, it was catch us if you can.

“It will be a good race next week,” he added.  “My horse and [Mucho Sleazy] did well.  You can't count out [Blueridge Western] or Art Official who came first up.  These four horses will be the standouts next week.”

Gingras selected post four for Bullville Powerful in next week’s final. (Meadowlands)
