Muscle Hill ties 1:55 track, stakes record in Haughton

Muscle Hill put in a dominant performance to capture the $500,000 Peter Haughton Memorial Final for 2-year-old trotters on Thursday night at the Meadowlands.

With Brian Sears in the bike, Muscle Hill cleared just before the half and cruised to a six-length win in
1:55, which matched the stakes, and track record set in 2006 by Donato Hanover.  Muscle Hill paid $3.00 to win the night’s eighth race.  Symphonic Hanover
finished second and Citation Lindy held third after a strong first-over challenge around the three-quarter pole.

“He definitely has a lot of talent, that’s for sure,” Sears said of the son of Muscles Yankee-Yankee Blondie. “All race horse. He’s got a lot of high speed. Once in awhile he kind of gets into himself, steps around a little bit, he doesn’t want to make a break but he’s got tons of ability. I had to be careful with him [Citation Lindy]. I could of rolled along with him a little faster and maybe not felt the pressure so immediately but I wanted to be extra careful with him. It all worked out. I’ve never raced a two-year-old trotting colt with this much ability.”

Purchased for $55,000, Muscle Hill has now won three of four career starts. Greg Peck trains the New Jersey Sire Stakes champion for Jerry Silva of
Long Beach, NY
and TLP Stable of Kearny, NJ.

“It’s special to be in the Haughton,” Peck explained, “because my uncle worked for them for near thirty years and was like another father to Peter. I thought about that all week, it was really special.” (The Meadowlands)
