A prep for the Titan Cup Trot, raced before the betting card at the Meadowlands, turned into a stretch sprint for Mr Muscleman and Vivid Photo, with Mr. Muscleman putting his nose on the wire first in 1:55 after a :26.2 final quarter blitz.
Vivid Photo, who started from post one, set the early pace, but Ron Pierce rolled Mr. Muscleman to the front, moving just past the first quarter. The tempo was slow to the half as a :30.2 second panel put Mr. Muscleman at the beam in :58.2. Muscleman jogged through another :slow quarter (:30..1) before the sprint to the wire.
As Mr. Muscleman drifted slightly off the pylons in the homestretch, driver Roger Hammer edged up in the gap with Vivid Photo, but fell a head shy at the wire.
The Titan Cup final will be contested Saturday night, June 30.
