World Champion Muscle Mass added another track record to his early freshman season, capturing the $115,000 American National for 2-year-old colt and gelding trotters at With Brent Holland in the bike, the son of Muscles Yankee sat third through the :29.1 opening quarter then moved to the lead at the :58.3 half. From there the race was all his as he passed the three quarters in 1:27.3 and began drawing away. At the wire he was 9 3/4 lengths ahead of the second-place Maxter and Dave Magee.
