In his debut column "Stretch Call," Briggs broke the news about the change in the business model for Ontario's racetracks.
When word came that Toronto's Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG) had transferred $500,000 to the purse account at The Raceway at The Western Fair District in London, the move signaled more than just the arrival of province-wide purse pooling. It was also the product of a new Memorandum of Understanding signed last week between the management of the eight Ontario tracks that form what's being called the Standardbred Alliance.
