The duo of Mya Tri and Walter Haynes Jr. fired down the stretch to win the fourth leg of the Indiana Sire Stakes Thursday at Hoosier Park, and the 3-year-old trotting filly by Pining Fora Tri has now won all 15 career starts she has competed in, and is a perfect four-for-four in 2008. Charging out of the gate was Yourcomindown, driven by Neil Coleman, to take the early lead. Racing through the quarter-mile mark in :28.4, Yourcomindown controlled the lead, with Mya Tri lurking from behind. Reaching the halfway mark in :59.3, ABC Valentine, guided by Don Eash, passed Yourcomindown to take the lead, with Mya Tri in pursuit of the top spot.
Nearing the three-quarter-mile mark, ABC Valentine held onto the lead with Mya Tri closing in. Ranger Nan, managed by Brooke Nickells, was fast approaching from behind. In the stretch, ABC Valentine still had the lead, but Mya Tri was out and moving. Racing towards the sixteenth pole, Mya Tri pulled away to win handily by 2 3/4 lengths in a time of 1:58.
“I felt pretty confident. She’s (Mya Tri) a good filly,” Haynes stated. “We have 16 days until the next race, so that should be enough time to get her ready (for the Sire Stakes final).” Owned by Bob Wientjes and Haynes, Mya Tri has earned over $148,000 in her career. She returned $2.10 across the board for her effort in the race. Mya Tri is trained by Sara Haynes. The Indiana Sire Stakes will conclude Saturday, June 28, as part of Hoosier Cup Night at Hoosier Park. The winner will receive the largest portion of the estimated $100,000 purse. Purses will exceed $1 million. (Hoosier Park)
