Freshman Mya Tri raised her record to eight wins in as many starts Wednesday, Sept. 12 with a six-length victory at Indiana Downs. Driven by Walter Haynes Jr., the trotting filly captured her $12,000 Indiana Sires Stakes division with a lifetime best 1:58.3 performance. The contest was one of four ISS events held at the Shelbyville track. Haynes, who co-owns the filly with breeder Bob Wientjes, got away second behind Cabernet Kisses and Trace Tetrick. Mya Tri, trained by Haynes’ wife, Sara, sat in the pocket through fractions of :29, 1:00.1 and 1:30.2 before cutting loose in the stretch. The undefeated freshman drew away quickly, dispatching the field by half a dozen lengths. Deputy Julianna raced second while Princess, driven by trainer Joe Putnam, was third. With the victory, Mya Tri increased her bankroll to just a shade under $71,000. In the other $12,000 ISS contest for filly trotters Ranger Nan scored her first career victory with a 2:00.2 triumph Wednesday. Mark O’Mara was in the bike for trainer Bill Bridges, steering the daughter of Harrys Star Ranger to a one and one-quarter length victory. Miracle Sprout, the leader through the first three-quarters of the mile, finished second. Shezalilyorphan raced third. Ranger Nan was bred by John R. Miller and is owned by Benair Farm. Prior to Wednesday evening, the filly had finished second four times in her six career starts. Two second-round ISS divisions were offered for freshman trotting colts Wednesday. In the first split, carded as a non-betting race, Brandon’s Secret wired the field en route to a nine-length victory. The CJ’s Secret gelding stopped the clock in 1:59.1 for driver Don Irvine Jr. Hesaflashysecret came home second while Secret Camacho was third. Trained by Steve Gray, the freshman has won twice in six starts, finishing off the board only once. He is owned by Julie Gray and Phillip Hawk. Larry Miller’s ABC Mercedes brushed to the lead racing to the half and pulled away in the stretch to win the $12,000 second division by seven lengths. Handled by Putnam, who also trains, the ABC Garland gelding equaled his lifetime best in the 1:58.4 score. Genesis Victory crossed the wire second and Hoosier Lee Brook was a distant third. The victory was the fourth in six starts for ABC Mercedes. The gelding, bred by Perry Coblentz, has accumulated $67,500 in his short career.
