Indiana Sires Stakes competition for sophomore trotters has been dominated by two horses this year. Mya Tri and ABC Mercedes Tri have yet to lose in 2008, and each continued the winning trend Wednesday at Indiana Downs in the second leg of ISS competition. Mya Tri continued to add to her legacy Wednesday, winning her seventh of the season and remaining undefeated in 18 career starts with a 1:56.3 clocking in ISS action. Racing second at the three quarter mile marker, Walter Haynes Jr. tipped the Pining Fora Tri filly and she exploded, clearing the field of 11 by two lengths at the wire. ABC Valentine raced second for Don Eash while Mayfair Eliza rounded out the trifecta. Owned by Bob Wientjes and Haynes, and trained by Sara Haynes, Mya Tri has earned $212,500. Larry Miller’s ABC Mercedes toyed with the field in the $12,000 ISS second leg for three-year-old trotting colts, romping by seven lengths to collect his seventh seasonal win. Driven by Mark O’Mara for trainer Joe Putnam, the ABC Garland gelding took control racing to the half and drew away in the stretch to win in a lifetime best 1:54.2. American Flyer, the other half of the Putnam-trained entry, finished second and Secret Image was third. The victory pushed career earnings for ABC Mercedes to more than $205,000.
