Just as he’s done in so many other stakes events, Shirley LeVin’s My Boy David came up big once again as he stormed through the passing lane to win the $20,000 Rambling Willie Stakes by a length in 1:51.2 at Balmoral Park Saturday night. Patiently handled by driver Ryan Anderson, this millionaire pacer was content to ride along in the pocket as Booze Cruzin (Sam Widger) led the field through opening splits of :27.4 and :56. The action began to heat up on the final turn as a first-over Brown Bottle Flu (Brandon Simpson) came roaring up to challenge. Fox Valley Gambler (Dan Noble) was full of pace and following the live outer flow into third while My Boy David continued to save ground at the pylons in fourth as the field raced by the three-quarter-mile station in 1:23.4. In the stretch a hard charging Fox Valley Gambler grabbed command on the far outside of horses. Just to his inside Brown Bottle Flu was still battling on gamely while Booze Cruzin began to drift out a bit as he began to fade. That allowed a locked and loaded My Boy David to secure the racing room he needed and the Homer Hochstetler trainee responded like the champion that he is, rallying up the inside to get the victory. Fox Valley Gambler was a strong second while Brown Bottle Flu was third. The victory was the third in 15 starts this year for this son of Cole Muffler. Heavily backed at the windows this lifetime winner of $1,105,524 returned $3.00, $2.60 & $2.10. (Balmoral Park)
