My Little Dragon roars

November 26, 2005 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Ron Pierce picked up his second Breeders Crown title in as many races Saturday night at the Meadowlands, ushering My Little Dragon to a 1:52.1 victory in the $500,000 2-year-old filly pace. Darlin?s Delight and Yannick Gingras were more than two lengths back in second with Dave Palone bringing Caviart Sydney home third.

A multiple horse shuffle in the first quarter mile had Sweetheart winner Lonesome Day and David Miller on the front end in :27.4 but only for a few strides as Pierce and My Little Dragon took the lead within the first three furlongs of the race. From there it was the Dragon Again filly?s race. She passed the half in :55.1 and the three quarters in 1:24. In the lane Pierce just had to tap her a couple time to keep her mind on business as My Little Dragon scored her sixth triumph in as many starts this year for owners Adam Victor and Son and trainer Brendan Johnson.

?She?s special,? said Pierce of My Little Dragon in the winner?s circle. ?She has a big engine and she can move her feet real quick. I?m not sure where her bottom is.?

Regarding his early move, Pierce said, ?I figured I had the best horse and I?ll just take it to them, and she went fairly easy.?
