My New Dawn scores in Egyptian Grande

Return Home
June 10, 2009 Send To A Friend  | Print View

After a dynamite performance by a state-bred freshman pacing colt here on Sunday night it was the girls turn to shine on Tuesday night as a field six Illinois conceived and foaled 2-year-old fillies went toe to toe in the $5,000 Egyptian Grande Stake.

Although the final time race was nowhere near as fast as Sunday’s national season's best the finish was just as thrilling as Virginia Budz's My New Dawn prevailed in an exciting three-horse blanket finish in 2:00.1.

Taking advantage of an inside post and a perfect drive by Tyler Buter the daughter of Cole Muffler-Sunnie’s Lady was able to sit in the pocket as Echoes In My Soul (Todd Warren) strolled through splits of :30.2, 1:01.3 and 1:32.4.

Patiently waiting for room in the passing lane Buter maneuvered his filly to the inside where she kicked it in to another gear. Gradually cutting into the leaders margin My New Dawn was able to collar the pace setter, sticking a nose in front in the final strides. Echo In My Soul turned in a game effort to finish second while a hard charging Mystic Major (Dale Hiteman) used a :26.2 final quarter to finish third just a head behind the winner.

Fresh off a winning qualifier over the Balmoral oval the Monique Bernardi-trained miss caught plenty of support at the betting windows returning $5.40. (Balmoral Park)
