Just as she did a week ago in the second leg of the Town Pro Pacing Series, My Red High Heels went to the front and stole her way to victory in Monday’s $55,700(C) final for 3-year-old filly pacers at Mohawk Racetrack. Randy Waples picked up the catch-driving assignment and sent the daughter of Modern Art-My Basha straight to command from the outside post in the field of eight. She had the field lined-up in single-file fashion through a speedy :26.4 first fraction. A :29.1 breather in the second quarter was the key to victory for My Red High Heels, who faced her first pressure in the third quarter from the first-over Champale Blue Chip. Although she was being challenged, My Red High Heels reached the third marker in only 1:25.1. After the soft middle half, My Red High Heels had little difficulty keeping her rivals at bay with a strong :27 second final panel to stop the clock in 1:52.1. Personal Ad rallied to finish 2 1/4 lengths back, in second, with Jersey Dream nailing down the show spot. It was the third straight victory and a new lifetime mark for My Red High Heels who returned a hefty $35.80 for the win. It was the fifth overall win this season for the Dave Tyrell trainee who is owned by Cesar Kowalski of Stoney Creek, Ont.
Ice Ice Baby and Striking Terror, a pair of first-time starters, were victorious in Monday’s two $40,000(C) Ontario Sire Stakes Gold eliminations for 2-year-old filly pacers. Striking Terror converted from a two-hole trip for driver Waples to win in 1:55.2 in the opening contest. The daughter of Western Terror-ETs Camille turned back Lily Ellie, with FBs Terror landing the show spot. Striking Terror, who had won two of three qualifiers in preparation for Monday’s assignment, returned $11.90 for the win. She is trained by Travis Alexander for the Fiddlers Creek Stables of West Bloomfield, Mich. In the second split, Ice Ice Baby also used an inside trip to her advantage as she popped out in mid-stretch and overhauled her rivals in 1:55 for trainer Darren McCall, who was in the driver’s seat. Tiz A Dream overcame post nine to finish second, with Windsong Grand Ave, who made a miscue just after the start but came all the way back to finish third. The daughter of Modern Art-Black Ice was totally overlooked by the wagering public and returned a whopping $107.10 to win. She is owned by the Living Our Dreams Stable of Cambridge, Ont. The $130,000(C) Ontario Sire Stakes Gold final will go postward next Monday night at Mohawk. The field, in post position order, will include Windsong Grand Ave, Tiz To Dream, Lily Ellie, St Lads Trixie, Mobro Flirt, Striking Terror, F Bs Terror, Ice Ice Baby, Precious Camill, and Miss All Fun.
