Mystery Photo was in the right place at the right time in the $25,000 Three-Year-Old Open Trot Friday afternoon at the Meadowlands as he emerged unscatched through a wall of breaking horses late in the mile. Favored Pilgrims Taj had led the entire mile until midway through the stretch when he shortened stride and went on a break for driver Mike Lachance, and in turn veered to his right and knocked offstride the first-over Break The Bank K, who in turn angled into RC Gallent Image, who also went on a break.
Pilgrims Taj led through fractions of :28, :57 and 1:25.3 as Tim Tetrick had Break The Bank K on the outside the entire way. Break The Bank K had settled in two wide in fifth before ranging up in the final turn and stayed game alongside the leadig Pilgrims Taj. But then chaos occured when the leader went on the break, and driver Andy Miller took full advantage with Mystery Photo, who crossed the wire in 1:54.1. Oh No It's Steveo picked up the second-place check for Brian Sears, with Pretty Boy Lindy and John Campbell third.
A son of SJ's Photo, Mystery Photo is owned by David and John Prushnok, Erv Miller and William Gregg. Miller's wife, Julie, is the trainer. The win was his third of the year in eight starts, the others coming in a conditioned event at the Big M and a Pennsylvania Sire Stakes leg at The Meadows.
One race earlier on the 87-degree New Jersey afternoon was a $25,000 Open for 3-year-old filly trotters. Fashion Feline led start to finish for Sears, clicking off fractions of :27.4, :55.1 and 1:22.4 before reaching the finish line in 1:53. A late rally by Bone A Fide and Yannick Gingras missed by just a nose of catching the winner. Favored Bar Slide was third for Tetrick.
A daughter of Broadway Hall, Fashion Feline is a homebred of Arlene and Jules Siegel's Fashion Farms. A seven-time winner last year, Fashion Feline notched her first win in two 2010 starts for trainer Jim Campbell.
