Defending Champion Mystical Sunshine and driver Daniel Dube came from off the pace Saturday night to track down Passionate Glide at the wire and capture her second consecutive Breeders Crown championship with a 1:54.2 victory at Mohawk Raceway. In what might be one of the final starts of her racing career, Mystical Sunshine and Dube got a strong second over trip down the backstretch, fanned out in the stretch to sneak past Passionate Glide at the wire by a half length. As just the second mare trotter to win back to back Mare Trot championships, Mystical Sunshine, a six-year-old daughter of Yankee Glide out of the Royal Prestige mare Aura Of Glory, joins Grade Singing, who won back to backs in 1986 and 1987. “It is a tremendous honor to win the Breeders Crown,” winning trainer Chris Ryder said. “She will always have a special place in my heart. I have won two Breeders Crown titles and she has won both of them.” Ryder indicated that this may be the last season that Mystical Sunshine will race. “I think she is going to sell at Harrisburg this year.” It was the sixth win in 15 starts this season for Mystical Sunshine, who pushed her career earnings past $1.8 million level. Passionate Glide was second and Snazzy Millie finished third. Susies Magic, the 2006 Three-Year-Old Filly Trot Champ, finished sixth. To see a replay of the race click here. (Mohawk)
