Mystical Sunshine led from gate to wire to spring a 9-1 upset over heavily-favored Peaceful Way in the $250,000 Breeders Crown Older Mare Trot at the Meadowlands Saturday. Driven by Ron Pierce, Mystical Sunshine took the lead early and then rebuffed the first-over challenge of Peaceful Way and driver Trevor Ritchie) to post a 1:53.3 victory.

Mystical Sunshine led at the :27.1 quarter and :56.4 half as Pierce began to range up first-over from sixth with Peaceful Way. Parked the rest of the way, Peaceful Way could not overome the overland route, tiring down the stretch to third as Three Little Words and driver David Miller rallied to take runner-up honors.

"I pretty much wanted to get around out of there and take control," said Pierce afterward. "I wouldn't have been surprised if (Peaceful Way) had blown by me again, but tonight she didn't."

A daughter of Yankee Glide, Mystical Sunshine is owned by Alvin Jacobson and Sid Korn. She is trained by Chris Ryder, who notched his first-ever Breeders Crown victory. The win was Mustical Sunshine's second in nine starts this year, increasing her career earnings to more than $1.3 million.
