After going down to defeat as the heavy favorite in his elimination a week ago, Mystician rebounded with a decisive 1:52.1 victory in Thursday night’s $130,000 Ontario Sires Gold Final for two-year-old colt and gelding pacers at Mohawk Racetrack.

The son of Camluck - Mystic Mistress left sharply from post six for driver Jody Jamieson and took the field past the first marker in :26.3. At that point, race favourite Lyons Elite shot out from third and took
charge right at the half in :55.2.

As the field swept into the final turn, longshot Drain Daddy pressed the tempo setter past the third station in 1:24.2. Lyons Elite could not stand up to the pressure on this night and started to drift wide as the field turned for home. At that point, Jamieson seized the opportunity to shoot through along
the inside. Once clear, Mystician powered away from his rivals to win easily.

Machal Jackson rallied to pick up the place spot, 1-3/4 lengths behind the winner, with Bullet Speed rounding out the top three.

Mystician kicked back $8.00 for the victory. Mystician, who is a full brother to $780,000 winner and former OSS star Camystic, has now won two of three starts for trainer Jeff Gillis, who co-owns along with Ken Henwood, Mac Nichol and Gerald Stay. The win improved his seasonal earnings to just over $83,000. (WEG)
