Shadow Play kept his 2008 undefeated streak in tact with a sharp 1:54.2 victory over an off track in Saturday's lone $25,000 division of the second leg of The Diplomat Pacing Series for 3-year-old colt pacers at Mohawk Racetrack. The victory also positioned the son of The Panderosa for a possible sweep of this year's edition of the Diplomat.
With Rick Zeron in the driver's seat, Shadow Play left alertly from post five and shot straight to the front through a moderate opening panel of :28.2. After getting a :30.2 breather in the second quarter, Shadow Play faced pressure from first-over attacker Stonebridge Magnum.
The pacesetter remained on top at three panels in 1:27.2 and had put away Stonebridge Magnum by the time the field turned for home. In the stretch, Get Out Of Dodge closed along the inside and made things interesting but fell short at the finish by half a length. Red Star Catch rallied stoutly to pick up the show spot. It was the third consecutive win on the campaign for Shadow Play, who is trained and co-owned by Dr. Ian Moore along with R G McGroup Ltd. of New Brunswick and Serge Savard of Quebec. He returned $4.40 for the victory. he $77,000 final of The Diplomat Series goes next Saturday night at Mohawk. (WEG)
