Naked streaks to victory

William M. Camp’s Racing Naked shrugged off a six-week layoff to score yet another victory at Colonial Downs Wednesday night. Racing Naked’s biggest career win came in the 2003 three-year-old colt and gelding division of the Virginia Breeders Fund final. The 6-year-old Misfit horse was a multiple winner at Colonial last fall, including a 1:51 mile that set his lifetime mark.

Racing Naked was the 2-5 favorite Wednesday in a $6,250 conditioned pace. Driver Jonathan Roberts wasted no time with the favorite, sending him right to the lead. Racing Naked set solid fractions of :27.1 and :56 while maintaining a 1 1/4-length lead over Ethical Hanover down the backside.

Mr. Shakedown moved first-over around the turn to take the first crack at Racing Naked. Mr. Shakedown got within a quarter-length of the frontstepper but Racing Naked shrugged off that challenge and turned for home with a 1 1/2-length lead.

Racing Naked finished strongly with a :27.4 final quarter to complete the mile in 1:52.1. Ethical Hanover finished second, 1 1/4 lengths back and BN The Money closed for third.

Wednesday’s win was Racing Naked’s sixth of the year and thirtieth overall for Camp and trainer John Sumner. The 1:52.1 mark is the fastest of the young meet. (Colonial)
