Native Bride scratched from Cape & Cutter final

February 18, 2010 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Native Bride, the 6-5 morning line favorite, has been scratched from the $80,000 Cape & Cutter for older pacing mares on Friday night at Meadowlands Racetrack.

Jay Sears, who shares ownership of the mare, said she came out of the last leg of the Cape & Cutter a little off. "She's got a suspensory behind that's bothering her," said Sears, whose son, Brian, has been driving the mare. "We're waiting for an evaluation from Dr. Patty Hogan. I'm hoping she can come back because we seem to have more broodmares than we need."

Lou Pena has been training Native Bride.

Chancey Lady, who upset Native Bride by a neck last week, is likely to inherit the role of post-time favorite for trainer Mark Kesmodel and driver John Campbell.

The Cape & Cutter is one of four winter series drawing to a close this weekend at Meadowlands Racetrack.  The stakes action continues Saturday night with the $88,000 Exit 16 W, $80,000 Aquarius and  $76,500 Junior Trendsetter. (Meadowlands)
