Newcomers finals held at Balmoral

February 12, 2009 Send To A Friend  | Print View

After two legs of preliminary action Balmoral Park played host to a pair of $8,000 finals of the Winter Newcomers Series on a wet and blustery Wednesday night, with You Go Girl and Dynamic Dream coming up winners.

In the trotting final, Gloria Cisna’s You Go Girl came storming through the open stretch to knock off seven rivals by three-quarters of a length in 2:03.1 over a sloppy track.

Patiently handled by young Marcus Miller, the daughter of Smokey Legend saved ground the entire way after leaving from post position four. After getting shuffled all the way to last on the final turn things looked bleak for the James May trainee as the field turned for home.

Despite being in dire straits Miller never panicked as he pulled off a magician-like move to secure racing room in the final sixteenth of a mile. With the early leaders starting to falter Miller drilled through a small opening in the passing lane and You Go Girl responded beautifully as she rallied for her second win in as many starts this season.

Agoodmatch (Ross Leonard) and favored B Victorious (Brandon Simpson) finished in a dead heat for second but B Victorious was set back to seventh for repeated violations of the breaking rule through the stretch. That moved Gold Mountain (Rick Schrock) up from fourth to third.

You Go Girl returned $16.80 as she pushed her career earnings over the $20,000 plateau.

In the pacing final for fillies and mares, Dynamic Dream lived up to her odds on billing as she completely dominated seven rivals in route to a 5 ¾-length romp in 1:56.4.

Hustled away from post position seven by driver Brandon Simpson the daughter of Dream Away settled in fourth through the early going. Moving swiftly while first-over Dynamic Dream cruised past the early pace setters as the field moved midway around the final turn.

The issue was never in doubt from that point on as the Lyle Scurlock leased and trained mare rattled off a :28 final quarter to make it a clean sweep of this series.

Smiling Angel (Sam Widger) turned in a hard trying effort to finish second while Fox Valley Magenta (Jason Dillander) held on gamely to get the show dough.

Now a perfect three for three in 2009, Dynamic Dream returned just $3.20. (Balmoral Park)
