New Hampshire Boy led at every call to win the $122,400 Old Oaken Bucket for 3-year-old colt trotters Thursday afternoon at the Delaware, Ohio fairgrounds. Driven by trainer Ray Schnittker, New Hampshire Boy left for the lead from post three and set fractions of :28.1, :57.4 and 1:27.1 before drawing clear from his 10 rivals to score by open lengths in 1:57.1.
Jimmy Shin finished second for driver Mike Lachance and trainer Ron Gurfein, while the Schnittker-trained Bamboo Yankee (the other half of the wagering entry) was third for driver George Brennan.
A winner on the New York Sire Stakes circuit, New Hampshire Boy was coming off a second-place finish in the $150,000 Sire Stakes final Sept. 15 at Yonkers Raceway. Overall, he now has nine wins and eight seconds in 19 starts this year. Winless last year as a freshman, New Hampshire Boy has made the most of his sophomore season as he increased his earnings to more than $375,000 with the Old Oaken Bucket victory.
The winning son of Credit Winner is owned by Schnittker in partnership with Steve Demeter and Herbert Burns.
