New harness show on tap

Television Games Network (TVG) will be introducing a new harness racing-dedicated show to its line-up beginning Friday as “Drive Time” becomes part of its schedule. The show will be hosted by harness veteran Gary Seibel and Dave Weaver, whose brother, Mark, owns Standardbreds.

“The show will basically be about racing at the Meadowlands, but there will be other harness racing in there as well,” Seibel told harnessracing.com. “I will be going (to the Meadowlands) once the spring comes around to do several interviews.”

Seibel said he’s been pleasantly surprised by the increased interest generated about harness racing since TVG began broadcasting the races from the Meadowlands in late December.

“Ever since we started covering the Meadowlands, we have got a lot of emails that were split between people being very excited about TVG covering the great racing at the Meadowlands, and the other half, once I started talking about things and throwing in one-liners about the old days such as racing at Roosevelt and Stanley Dancer and Billy Haughton, excited just to get the opportunity to talk about harness racing. There are a lot of blatant harness racing fans that were keeping quiet until we started showing the Meadowlands. It’s kind of cool; I thought to myself that I knew those folks were out there.”

As for turning his on-air attention away from Thoroughbreds to the Standardbreds, Seibel concluded, “I am enjoying this; it’s fun. Particularly the fact that it is the Meadowlands makes it all worthwhile to me.”
