New Jersey media outlets are reporting that voters in the Garden State want state government to stay involved in the horse racing industry and to keep out of Atlantic City. A poll by Quinnipiac University revealed voter sentiment on the two subjects addressed lasts month by the Hanson Commission, which called for the state to close the Meadowlands Racetrack.
A majority of the voters--69 percent--think the state should try to revive Atlantic City as a beach resort instead of focusing solely on its gaming entertainment.
The poll also said slightly more voters support slots at the tracks than oppose the measure.
