New Jug book to be published

The Delaware County Fair and the Little Brown Jug Society have announced that a new publication,  featuring personal and-or favorite memories of Jug week, is underway.

“We are excited to tell the stories that make the Little Brown Jug what it is today,” said Phil Terry, LBJ Marketing Director.  “There are so many great stories surrounding the Jug and the races at the Delaware County Fair , we felt it was necessary to put them in a book to share with our thousands of fans.  Our goal is to have a book that would be enjoyable for both the casual fan and most ardent supporters.”

The Little Brown Jug Society will conduct a contest to name the book, much like in 1944 when more than 4,000 names were suggested in a contest to name the race.   Major Lanning Parsons of Mt. Vernon, OH submitted the winning entry, “Little Brown Jug.”  Details of the contest will be announced.

The book will be written by Tom White and Jay Wolf.  White is a member of the Communicators Corner of the Harness Racing Hall Of Fame and has served as Jug Publicity Director since 1996.  Wolf, a life-long resident of Delaware, has served as White’s assistant at Delaware since 2000.

The book is expected to be released in the summer of 2009.

This will be the second book published on the Little Brown Jug.  “America’s Pacing Classic” was released in 1995 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the event.
