New mares' race at Big M

March 30, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

A new stakes for free-for-all pacing mares will debut on Mother's Day at the Meadowlands. The Hanover Shoe Farms–britstud.com Matriarch Pace will feature a purse estimated at $100,000 and the winner will receive a bonus--the choice of a breeding from among three of the sport's premier pacing stallions: Artsplace, Cam's Card Shark and Western Ideal.

The Matriarch joins the third edition of the $75,000 Thomas Strada Memorial Invitational Pace on Saturday, April 22 and the second edition of the $100,000 (est.) Perretti Matchmaker Trot on Friday, July 14 as part of the Meadowlands' commitment to provide showcases for the highly competitive mares divisions.

The Matriarch, on Sunday, May 12, will offer $75,000 in added money. The starting fee is $2,500.

"Traditionally this time of the year is a void for this class so it provides a nice bridge between the winter-spring series for mares and our summer stakes–the Lady Liberty and Golden Girls," said Meadowlands vice president for racing operations Chris McErlean. "We are pleased to highlight New Jersey's superior breeding industry as represented by these three stallions who are also three of the top stallions in North America. We are also pleased to have industry leaders like Hanover Shoe Farms and Brittany Stallion Management (britstud.com) assisting us with this event."
