New mark for Bobcat

Primetime Bobcat captured Woodbine’s $50,000 Open Saturday night with a 1 ¼-length victory over Dr. No in 1:48., setting a new all-age track mark. The time of the mile was a lifetime best for the 9-year-old gelded son of Abercrombie.

Betting favorite Ponder raced from the back of the pack for the first half the mile, then made his move in the last turn but couldn’t sustain the rally. Ponder finished fifth, beaten five lengths. Rair Earth, the leader at the quarter-mile mark, held on for third.

Primetime Bobcat was driven by Jody Jamieson, who also steered the 9-year-old Abercrombie gelding to a third-place finish in the Dan Patch Invitational the previous week. Owned by trainer Anthony Montini, Basil Michele and William and Joseph Rogers, Primetime Bobcat now has eight wins in 14 starts this season.
